Minecraft just announced an exciting update for Minecraft Bedrock Edition: Add-ons are now available through the Minecraft Marketplace!
What are Add-ons?
Similar to mods, Add-ons allow you to deeply customize your Minecraft experience. Add new blocks, items, creatures, recipes, and even unique in-game mechanics. Want players to leave behind secure gravestones when they die? Or how about a buildable portal system to connect distant locations? Add-ons can make it happen.
Multiplayer Friendly
Add-ons can be easily applied to existing worlds, including multiplayer worlds and Realms. The best part is only the world owner needs to own the Add-on for everyone to enjoy its features.
Traditional Mods Still Supported
Minecraft assures players that the ability to use traditional mods from third-party websites and apps will continue as normal. There are no plans to remove that functionality.
This is Just the Beginning
Think of this launch as a preview of what Add-ons can do. Expect even more possibilities and features as the system is developed throughout the year.
